8 Reales from the extinct Central America Republic

The Rara Avis Collection features several mint state 8 reales from the Central America Republic; including the 1824-NG Ex. Lissner 8 Reales, outstanding gem.

In the early 1820s, Central America became an independent nation, and the Federal Republic of Central America was established. The first coinage issued by the Republic was the Central American Republic Real, which was introduced in 1824.

In 1838, the Central American Republic was dissolved, and the individual countries began to issue their own currencies. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, most of the countries in Central America used a decimal currency system based on the peso, with various denominations of coins in circulation.
