Iturbide Imperial Coinage (1822 - 1823)

Agustín de Iturbide was a Mexican military leader and politician who played a significant role in the Mexican War of Independence. He initially fought for the Spanish colonial forces but later switched sides and joined the insurgent forces led by Vicente Guerrero. Iturbide's military campaigns and leadership helped to secure Mexico's independence from Spain, which was formally achieved in 1821.

After Mexico gained its independence, Iturbide was initially named Regent of the newly-established First Mexican Empire and later declared himself Emperor of Mexico. His reign was short-lived, however, as he faced opposition from various political factions and was eventually overthrown in a coup in 1823.

Iturbide's legacy is somewhat controversial in Mexican history, as he is both celebrated as a hero of the War of Independence and criticized for his brief and tumultuous reign as emperor. Nevertheless, he remains an important figure in Mexican history, and his role in the country's struggle for independence is widely recognized.
