1914 Six-Star Muera Huerta Peso GB-82 variety.

The Rara Avis Collection features the only known specimen of the six-star Muera Huerta Peso GB-82 variety in mint state. This is an early strike from the six-star Muera Huerta dies.

This coin is most remarkable because of its "MUERA HUERTA" (Death to Huerta) inscription. It is said that Huerta was so enraged about it that he proclaimed to the effect that whoever was found in possession of one of these coins should be subject to death. So dire a threat on a coin is almost unique in numismatic annals.

According to Guthrie and Bothamley, the GB-82 Muerta Huerta peso is an early strike from the six-star Muera Huerta dies since the die breaks have not yet appeared.

Howland Wood authored a cool story about this coin: "I have reliable information from former Villista Generals to the effect that these coins were struck at Cuencamé and that Villa personally distributed them to his army leaders at a little town called Tepehuanes, in the State of Durango. I have also learned that a lady in Pasadena, California, owns one of these pieces, and Mr. Asencio of Mexico City has another."

I have seen only three GB-82 specimens; the Guthrie-Bothamley, an NGC XF Details example, was sold by World Numismatics circa 2012, and my example, the only mint state example extant so far.
