1824-Do RL Durango Hookneck 8 Reales Ex. Richard Lissner

Superb gem with lustrous fields and incredible dark blue patina. Submissive snake, large Libertad variety. A jaw-dropping example of this first Durango 8 Reales.

It was February of 1972 when Richard "Dick" Lissner purchased this coin from Dick Parker, a gem 1824 Durango 8 reales - the single-finest example of the "hookneck" type from any mint.

The “hookneck” type refers to the design on the reverse side of the coin where the eagle’s neck appears to be hooked. This design is unique to coins minted in Durango and makes them highly sought after by collectors.
